Leadership is about empowerment. My job today is equipping designers to take risks, discover possibilities to ultimately do phenomenal work. This requires a lot of freedom and autonomy for them to explore and look at other great work. We share discoveries, innovations and interesting ideas. Together we challenge the status and push boundaries. This keeps them artists. I walk them through the business plan or creative brief and we discuss the ramifications of all the ideas and decide what is the most feasible with the variables placed on a project. This moves them to think about business, theirs and ours.
We all review and help to enhance all the work. While a designer may be lead on a project, having the team take a look at the design is like having an editor spell check content. This makes the product better.
